Sadie's story

Sadie and I hung out together for a few days. We met these two dogs, who liked each other so much! I hope that I can have some friends like that.

I asked Sadie what happened, why she was on the streets. She looked pretty healthy.

"I had a nice home," she said. "My people kept me in the back yard. I think they were afraid that I would hurt something. My people had children." She paused and looked sad.

"Did something happen to the children?" I asked.

"Yes. Me. The little one went outside. This one was a little smaller than I am so I thought we could play together. I ran up to this little person, wagging my tail, and I knocked the little person down. The little girl started to cry and the mommy came out and got mad at me. She took the little girl inside."

"But you were just trying to play. Didn't they understand that?"

"I think they did. Later, both the mommy and the daddy went outside and just looked at me and they looked sad. I heard the daddy say he was going to have to take me 'to the pound', whatever that is. It sounded so bad! I didn't want to go!"

"What did you do then?"

"I started to howl at them, to tell them no, no, no. The daddy went up to me and took my collar off. He said they wouldn't need the collar at the pound. I got really scared then."

"I have heard about that pound. It sounds really bad. I heard that sometimes dogs go in there and never come out. "

"Yes. The daddy and mommy went inside. I knew they weren't going to change their minds. So I dug a hole under the fence and ran away. And here I am...I'm so scared, Duley. I don't know what I'm going to do."
