The lady and the hound
I could smell dog food at this place with the fences, so Sadie and decided to camp out there for a few days. We will figure out a way to get that food eventually.
We found a nice bush with some soft underbrush. I went in first, circled around and dug a little. Then Sadie came in, circled, and curled up next to me. We fell asleep fast even with the noise from all those other dogs barking and howling. I guess we were tired.
The next day I woke up early. While Sadie was still asleep, I went back over to the dogs behind the fences. I saw a woman bring a white, brown, and black dog with long fur in. The woman had tears in her eyes. She said,
"I asked all my friends and family if they could take him. I just can't... I made fliers and put an ad in the newspaper, by no one wanted an eight year old dog. Look at him, he's so beautiful. Why don't they want him?"
She walked the dog down the hall and handed the leash and some papers to a man in brown.
"Here are all his vet records. He is a nice dog with a lot of energy. He is healthy and well behaved, except that recently he’s started howling. I'm not sure why and the vet can't figure it out. Maybe he misses the old days. Maybe he misses my ex. He used to take him out for long runs and play sessions. With my work, I just can't handle him anymore."
And then the lady turned to the dog and said, "goodbye." He understood. He was upset and frightened. I could tell.
Then the man in brown took the dog into a fenced area and gave him some water.
